What the square is like
The cathedral stands on Stephansplatz, where the U1 and U3 meet, at the top of the Graben and the Kärntner Straße. The Christmas village fills the square from 6 November to 26 December 2026, daily 11:00 to 21:00 and to 16:00 on 24 December, and on 31 December the square is a site of the Silvesterpfad, the free New Year’s Eve trail that runs from 14:00 to 02:00. The cathedral’s towers and catacombs have their own guide: St Stephen’s Cathedral tickets. Distances are straight lines from the cathedral, so a walk is a little longer.
