💡 The Short Version: The S-Bahn trunk line through Vienna is closed from 7 September 2026 to the end of October 2027, so the City Airport Train (CAT) now runs as a bus: 21 minutes non-stop to Wien Mitte, every 12 minutes from 07:00 to 19:00, €14.90 single and €24.90 return. The cheapest way is the train at €5.50: the REX 7 takes about 20 minutes to Wien Hauptbahnhof and the railjet or InterCity about 15. The S7 now stops at Wien St. Marx, outside the centre. The Vienna Airport Bus is €11, with lines to Hauptbahnhof, Schwedenplatz, Karlsplatz and Praterstern. A taxi is a fixed €42 for up to 4 passengers if you order it from Taxi 40100. Or book a transfer: the CAT by bus ticketad is from €12 on GetYourGuide, against €14.90 from CAT (GetYourGuide).
The options, compared
Wien Mitte, the CAT’s stop, is not the main station: the U3 and U4 start there. Fares are the operators’ own.

| CAT by bus | 21 minutes, non-stop | €14.90 single, €24.90 return | Wien Mitte, at Marxergasse 1b |
| ÖBB railjet or InterCity | About 15 minutes to Hauptbahnhof, just under 30 to Meidling | €5.50 | Wien Hauptbahnhof (U1) or Wien Meidling (U6) |

| S7 | Stops short of the centre | €5.50 | Wien St. Marx only |
| Airport Bus line 2 | 22 minutes | €11 single, €20 return | Schwedenplatz (U1, U4) |
| Airport Bus line 4 | 26 minutes, non-stop | €11 single, €20 return | Karlsplatz (U1, U2, U4) |

| Airport Bus line 1 | 40 minutes | €11 single, €20 return | Hauptbahnhof (U1) and Westbahnhof (U3, U6) |
| Taxi, fixed price | Traffic-dependent | €42 for up to 4 | Any Vienna address |
The S-Bahn trunk line between Wien Praterstern and Wien Hauptbahnhof is closed to all trains from 7 September 2026 to the end of October 2027, and trains do not stop at Rennweg or Wien Mitte/Landstraße (wien.info). That changes the CAT and the S7.

After you arrive
Wiener Linien tickets are valid only in the Vienna core zone, so a journey from the airport needs the add-on or the airport ticket. Vienna public transport explains the tickets, Vienna Pass or Vienna City Card says what the card covers, and what to book before you go to Vienna lists the sights that need tickets. Where to stay in Vienna compares the areas, and hotels near St Stephen’s Cathedral lists the beds in the centre. 3 days in Vienna plans a first visit round the bookings, and the day trips from Vienna leave from Hauptbahnhof, Westbahnhof and Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof.
