City Break Geek
Privacy and affiliate links
City Break Geek is an independent site. Questions about this page or your data: robert@promptlybuilt.co.uk. Last updated 29 September 2026.
What we collect
There are no accounts, comments, newsletters or forms, so we never ask for your name or email address.
We use Google Analytics to count visits: which pages are read, how people arrive, the device and browser, the town or country (from your IP address, which Google does not store), what is searched on the site, and which links are clicked, including affiliate links. It sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_<id>, which last up to two years. Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off, so none of it is used for advertising.
Turning analytics off
Analytics never loads if your browser sends Global Privacy Control. Or use this button, which stops it on this browser:
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings.
Affiliate links
Links marked ad are affiliate links. If you book or buy through one, the company pays us a commission, and the price you pay is the same. Rankings and recommendations are never paid for: theabout page explains how guides are built.
We are paid by:
- Hotels.com, through CJ Affiliate, for hotel links
- GetYourGuide, for tours, tickets and the activity widgets
When you follow an affiliate link, the company or network sets a cookie on its own site so the sale can be credited to us. Their privacy policies cover that. We add the name of the page the link was on, so we can see which guides earn; nothing about you is passed on.
Things other companies load
- GetYourGuide activity widgets load from GetYourGuide's servers and are covered by its privacy policy.
- Maps load map images from OpenStreetMap and the map code from unpkg.com, which receive your IP address.
- YouTube videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced player and load nothing from YouTube until you press play.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard request logs, including IP addresses, to serve and protect the site.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what data is held about you and object to its use: emailrobert@promptlybuilt.co.uk. Most of what the site collects is held by Google; turning analytics off above stops any more being collected. If you are unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to theInformation Commissioner's Office.
