The cruise port
People Mover €1.50 · taxi about 2 minutes · airport taxi €45
Cruise ships berth at the Marittima terminals, which Venezia Terminal Passeggeri says are 3 minutes from Piazzale Roma by the People Mover, the automated railway whose station is at the port entrance, or about 2 minutes by taxi. The People Mover is a 75-minute ticket at €1.50, which also works on the mainland buses and trams but not on the vaporetti (AVM). From Santa Lucia, take the vaporetto one stop to Piazzale Roma, then the People Mover or a taxi, or a water taxi directly to the terminals. For the San Basilio terminal, vaporetti stop at Santa Marta and San Basilio, and it is about 2 minutes by taxi or 15 minutes on foot. From the airport to the cruise terminal the land taxi is a fixed €45. VTP says a water taxi runs directly from the cruise port to St Mark’s Square (vtp.it).
From Piazzale Roma, vaporetti run to the rest of the city. Venice public transport has the tickets, and the Venice walking tours page has the walks that start at St Mark’s.
What to book before you go to Venice lists the sights that need tickets and has the entry rules for Italy, where to stay in Venice compares the areas, and the day trips from Venice leave from Santa Lucia and Piazzale Roma. Carry your passport or photo ID.
