💡 The Short Version: The Campanile is €15, a separate ticket from the Basilica, sold by the Procuratoria di San Marco at tickets.basilicasanmarco.it, and a lift reaches the bell chamber in 30 seconds. It opens at 9:30 and closes at 21:15 from April to October and 19:15 from November to March, and wind or bad weather can close it. The free entry some visitors have at the Basilica does not cover the Campanile. The cheaper views are the Basilica terrace (€20 ticket, €10 more than the Basilica alone) and the Bovolo staircase (€9). Or book a walk: the St Mark’s to Rialto walking tour with a spritzad is from €27.
The ticket
The Procuratoria di San Marco sells the Campanile at tickets.basilicasanmarco.it, its only online shop. Search results for “St Mark’s Campanile tickets” include sites with the Campanile’s name in their web address that say on their own pages they are unofficial or independent.

| Ticket | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Campanile | €15 | The bell chamber, by lift |
| Basilica and Museum | €20 | The Basilica, plus the terrace over the Square (Loggia dei Cavalli). See St Mark’s Basilica tickets |
- It is timed. The system admits you at the booked time, and the ticket carries a name.
- Add it on the day. With a Basilica-only ticket you can add the Campanile on site.
- Free entry does not apply. Children and Venice residents who enter the Basilica free pay for the Campanile.
- The weather decides. The Procuratoria says the opening times vary with events and, in wind or bad weather, the tower can close.
GetYourGuide sells bell-tower bundles from other providers, starting at €38 for a ticket with a St Mark’s Square history gallery. The Procuratoria’s own price is €15.
Is it worth €15?
The Campanile is 98.6 m high, taller than any of the alternatives, and the lift makes it the easy climb. The alternatives:

- The Basilica terrace. The Loggia dei Cavalli is on the €20 Basilica and Museum ticket, which is €10 more than the Basilica alone, and you also see the Basilica and the Museum. It is lower than the tower.
- The Scala Contarini del Bovolo. €9 for 80 steps up a spiral stair, built in 1499, to a rooftop belvedere. Best views in Venice compares it with the rest.
- San Giorgio Maggiore. Its bell tower is closed for extraordinary maintenance, and the abbey’s site gives no reopening date.
- T Fondaco dei Tedeschi. The free rooftop terrace behind the Rialto Bridge has been closed since 1 May 2025, when the whole store shut.
Choose the Campanile for the height and the lift, and the terrace if you are already paying for the Museum.
Tours worth paying for
The Campanile has no tour of its own. A walk from the Square covers the sights around it. Prices are GetYourGuide’s lowest “from” prices, per person.

What to see
The Procuratoria gives the tower’s height as 98.6 m: a brick shaft 53.75 m high, with the bell chamber and the spire above it, topped by a statue of the Archangel Gabriel. The first tower on the site was ordered in 888, and Galileo showed his telescope to the Doge from it in August 1609.
- The lift. Installed in 1932, it takes 30 seconds.
- The bell chamber. The view runs from the Square to the lagoon.
- The tower itself. It fell on 14 July 1902 and was rebuilt “as it was, where it was”, opening on 25 April 1912, St Mark’s day.

What to skip: the Campanile in strong wind or low cloud, when the tower may be shut or the view poor.
Hours and getting there
- Hours: every day from 9:30. It closes at 21:15 from April to October and 19:15 from November to March. The last entry is at least 30 minutes before closing.
- Where: the Square, beside the Basilica. The vaporetto stops are San Marco Vallaresso and San Zaccaria, on line 1.
The Basilica and the Doge’s Palace are the other two tickets to book, and the Museum Pass covers the Palace but not the Campanile. What to book before you go to Venice has the closed days for every sight, and Venice in one or two days fits the tower around the weather. Common questions
How much is a ticket for the St Mark's Campanile?
€15, sold by the Procuratoria di San Marco on the same site as the Basilica. It is a separate ticket from the Basilica's €10 to €30 tickets, and the free entry that some visitors have at the Basilica does not cover the Campanile.
How do I get to the top of the Campanile?
By lift. The Procuratoria says the lift installed in 1932 reaches the bell chamber in 30 seconds, so there are no stairs to climb.
When does the Campanile close?
It opens at 9:30 and closes at 21:15 from April to October and 19:15 from November to March, with the last entry at least 30 minutes earlier. The Procuratoria says the times can change with events and with wind or bad weather.
Do I need to book the Campanile in advance?
Book online. The Procuratoria sells timed entry, and the system admits you at the booked time. If you hold a Basilica-only ticket you can also add the Campanile on site.
How high is St Mark's Campanile?
98.6 metres. The tower collapsed on 14 July 1902, without casualties, and was rebuilt as it was, where it was, and opened on 25 April 1912.
Is there a cheaper view over the Square?
The terrace of the Basilica's Museum, the Loggia dei Cavalli, is in the €20 Basilica and Museum ticket, which is €10 more than the Basilica alone. The Scala Contarini del Bovolo is €9. The Campanile is the highest of the three.
