💡 The Short Version: Kutná Hora is a České dráhy train from Praha hlavní nádraží, 51 to 56 minutes, up to 166 CZK each way. The Sedlec Ossuary (the Bone Church) is timed entry: buy a date-and-time ticket online (220 CZK, with the Sedlec cathedral) before you travel, and photography is banned inside. St Barbara’s Cathedral is 180 CZK with no booking. On your own the day is about 732 CZK (£25). Or book a tour: Sandemans’ Kutná Hora tourad (from £58.79, 4.6 stars from 2,518 reviews, 6 hours) costs about £33 more, books the ossuary slot, takes the train with you, covers both churches and the bus between them, and adds a guide (GetYourGuide).
Going on your own
Train fares are České dráhy’s full adult second-class fares for the connection (IDOS). Trains run roughly hourly.
- To Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží: 51 to 56 minutes from Praha hlavní nádraží, 137 to 166 CZK each way depending on the train. The return takes 52 to 57 minutes, 107 to 166 CZK.
- To Kutná Hora-Sedlec: 1 hour 3 minutes to 1 hour 6 minutes, 168 CZK. This is the stop nearest the ossuary.
- Between the sights: the ossuary is in Sedlec and St Barbara’s is in the town. Sandemans’ tour buys a bus ticket between them; on your own, budget for a local bus.
- The day: buy the ossuary slot before the train, go to the ossuary and the Sedlec cathedral first, and finish at St Barbara’s, which closes at 18:00 from April to October and 17:00 in November and December.

The ossuary ticket. Buy it at eshop.sedlec.info in CZK or euros, or at the Sedlec information centre, Zámecká 279. The churches do not sell tickets. A ticket can be refunded up to 3 days before the visit, as a voucher valid for 12 months, and the time cannot be changed. Arrive about 5 minutes early and no later than 10 minutes after the slot.
Tours from Prague
A tour books the slot and the transport. The ossuary is self-guided with leaflets, so a guide is what separates a tour from the same trip on your own. Prices are GetYourGuide’s lowest “from” price for one adult.

What to see
Allow about 6 hours door to door, with the ossuary slot as the fixed point. The ossuary and St Barbara’s are run by different bodies, so there is no joint ticket.

- Sedlec Ossuary. 220 CZK with the Sedlec cathedral · daily, 9:00 to 18:00 April to September, 9:00 to 17:00 March and October, 9:00 to 16:00 November to February. A Gothic church of the first half of the 14th century on the grounds of a former Cistercian monastery. The lower chapel is decorated with human bones: four pyramids, a chandelier said to be assembled from every bone in the body, and the Schwarzenberg coat of arms made by František Rint before 1870. The lower chapel visit is capped at 30 minutes; the upper chapel is not time-limited (sedlec.info).
- The Sedlec cathedral. On the same 220 CZK ticket · no timed slot. The cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady, on the same site as the ossuary. Visit it before or after your slot.
- St Barbara’s Cathedral. 180 CZK · daily, 9:00 to 18:00 April to October. A Perpendicular Gothic cathedral listed by UNESCO with the town centre. Work stopped in the middle of the 16th century when the silver mines ran out. The basic ticket has no guide and no time limit, and the church has an audio guide and a printed guide (chramsvatebarbory.cz).
- Skip: a guided visit to St Barbara’s unless you book two weeks ahead. The guide costs 600 CZK on top of the 180 CZK ticket.

Kutná Hora is one of the day trips from Prague, which compares it with Český Krumlov and Karlštejn on fare and time. What to book before you go to Prague has the city tickets, Prague public transport has the PID fares for getting to the station, and 3 days in Prague shows where a day out fits.
Common questions
Do I need to book the Sedlec Ossuary in advance?
Yes. Tickets are for a set date and time, sold online at eshop.sedlec.info or at the Sedlec information centre, and the parish says entry cannot be guaranteed without a reservation. The time cannot be changed, and you must arrive no later than 10 minutes after your slot.
How do I get from Prague to Kutná Hora?
Take a České dráhy train from Praha hlavní nádraží to Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží: 51 to 56 minutes and up to 166 CZK each way. Trains also run to Kutná Hora-Sedlec, the stop nearest the ossuary, in 1 hour 3 minutes to 1 hour 6 minutes.
Can you take photos in the Bone Church?
No. The Sedlec parish has banned photography inside the ossuary. Large bags and motorbike helmets are not allowed in, and there are lockers at the information centre.
Is a Kutná Hora tour from Prague worth it?
It costs £17 to £33 more than the train and entries on your own (about 732 CZK, or £25). In return the guide books the timed ossuary slot, and the best-reviewed tour includes the train, entry to both churches and the bus between them. The ossuary itself is self-guided, so a guide adds the explanation.
