💡 The Short Version: The general ticket is €24 and covers the museum, the Álvaro Siza Wing, the park with its Treetop Walk, the Art Deco villa and the House of Cinema. The park alone is €15, and so is the late-afternoon ticket for the museum, park, villa and cinema, Monday to Thursday from 17:00 with last admission at 18:00. The free first Sunday of the month is for residents of Portugal only. Buy at serralves.pt or at the gate. Or book a tour: Serralves sells no guided visit to individuals, so GetYourGuide carries only the foundation’s own general ticketad, at the same €24.

Tickets and prices

Prices are the foundation’s own, from serralves.pt, per person. Tickets are sold online on its ticketing site and at the gate. Sites with the foundation’s name in their address are resellers.

What to see

Allow half a day for the general ticket: about an hour for the museum, an hour for the villa and the cinema, and an hour for the park and the Treetop Walk. Go in this order, and spend the last hour outside.

  1. The Museum of Contemporary Art. Álvaro Siza designed it, and it opened in June 1999. The galleries run in a U shape round a patio, so the park shows through the windows. It stages temporary exhibitions and holds the foundation’s collection.
  2. The Álvaro Siza Wing. A three-floor building in the park for the Serralves Collection and exhibitions on architecture, which added 44% more exhibition space. It is part of the general ticket.
  3. Serralves Villa. An Art Deco house of the 1930s that belonged to Count Carlos Alberto Cabral. The interior carries work by Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (the dining room, hall and salon), a René Lalique skylight and a wrought-iron gate by Edgar Brandt. The foundation’s restoration was overseen by Siza.
  4. The park. 18 hectares laid out by the landscape architect Jacques Greber in the 1930s: formal gardens, woodland and a traditional farm, with about 200 plant species and sculptures from the Serralves collection on permanent display.
  5. The Treetop Walk. An elevated walkway close to the tree canopy, built in 2019 and included in the park ticket.
  6. The House of Cinema Manoel de Oliveira. In the general and late-afternoon tickets; it screens films, so look at the programme.
