💡 The Short Version: Le Marais is on the Right Bank, in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements, and you choose by street. The Place des Vosges and Saint-Paul (the Pavillon de la Reine, the Hôtel Jeanne d’Arc, the Hôtel Emile) has metro line 1 and the Picasso and Carnavalet museums within a few minutes’ walk. Rue Vieille-du-Temple (the Caron de Beaumarchais) is the closest to Notre-Dame, about 600 m. Rue de Poitou in the Haut Marais (the Hôtel du Petit Moulin) is next to the Musée Picasso, with rooms from 20 m². Rue du Grenier Saint-Lazare (the Hôtel Georgette) is on the Beaubourg edge, on metro lines 11 and 4. Rooms are small: 13 to 17 m² is normal for a double, so check the size of the category you book. Le Marais is not on the RER B: from Charles de Gaulle change at Châtelet–Les Halles for metro line 1 or 11.

Le Pavillon de la Reine & Spa

On the Place des Vosges itself, set back among shaded gardens. The spa is 250 m² with a hammam, a jacuzzi, two treatment rooms and a gym, open 7:00 to 21:00 every day, and the hotel says it is open to people who are not staying. The classic rooms are about 21 m² under the roof, the superior rooms about 22 m² on the courtyard and the deluxe rooms 21 to 32 m²; the suites run from 43 to 56 m² and the family suites from 58 to 90 m². Guests can use a private car park with a valet, at no charge, for cars up to 1.80 m high. Saint-Paul (line 1) and Chemin Vert (line 8) are the nearest stations.

Hôtel Jeanne d’Arc Le Marais

A three-star hotel on a quiet street beside Saint Catherine’s Square, a few minutes’ walk from the Place des Vosges and Saint-Paul station. The rooms come in six sizes: single 9 to 10 m², classic and standard 13 to 14 m², superior 15 to 17 m², comfort 18 to 21 m² (up to three people) and a 30 m² family room of two rooms. Every room has a kettle. There is an honesty bar, open around the clock, and a continental breakfast from 7:15 to 10:45.

Hôtel Emile Le Marais

A boutique hotel between the Rue de Rivoli and the Place Saint-Paul, with Saint-Paul station on line 1 a minute’s walk away. The Musée Picasso, the Musée Carnavalet and the Place des Vosges are each three to five minutes on foot, by the hotel’s own count. The bathrooms are open-plan. The top-floor double, 15 m², has a balcony over the rooftops; the 20 m² suite on the same floor has a claw-foot bath. Some rooms have balconies over the church of Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis or the street.

Rue Vieille-du-Temple

Hôtel Caron de Beaumarchais

A three-star hotel with an 18th-century interior: a fortepiano of 1792 and a Louis XV harp in the salon, beams, antique mirrors and chandeliers. It is the closest of the six to Notre-Dame, and the hotel’s own walking times are 10 minutes to Notre-Dame and the Musée Picasso and 12 to the Place des Vosges. The street-side rooms are 13 to 17 m², six of them with a balcony and two under the roof, and look on to Rue Vieille-du-Temple, which the hotel calls one of the liveliest streets in the Marais. The courtyard rooms are about 14 m² and quieter. Every room is a double for one or two people; there are no suites and no connecting rooms. Breakfast is €16 a head, served 7:30 to 12:00. The lift serves all six floors. Saint-Paul and Hôtel de Ville, both on line 1, are a few steps away.

The Haut Marais

Hôtel du Petit Moulin

A four-star hotel with interiors by Christian Lacroix, in a building that was a bakery; the hotel says its 1900 shopfront is a listed historic monument. Each of the 17 rooms is decorated differently: two Comfort and three Superior rooms of 20 m², eleven Deluxe rooms of 24 m² and one Junior Suite of 35 m². Guests can use the spa at the sister Pavillon de la Reine, ten minutes’ walk away. Continental breakfast is served 7:00 to 10:30, and the honesty bar is open from noon to midnight. The nearest stations are Saint-Sébastien–Froissart and Filles du Calvaire, on line 8, not line 1. The Musée Picasso is about 210 m away.

The Beaubourg edge

Hôtel Georgette

A four-star hotel of 22 rooms where each floor takes a 20th-century art movement, from Bauhaus and De Stijl to Pop Art and Op Art. The Classic double is 14 m², the Superior 14 to 16 m², the Superior Executive 17 m² and the Deluxe 22 m². The Café Georgette, on the corner of Rue Saint-Martin, has a terrace. The hotel lists Rambuteau (line 11), Étienne Marcel (line 4) and Châtelet, and calls itself gay-friendly. It is the closest of the six to the Louvre, about 1.3 km. The Centre Pompidou, 10 minutes’ walk by the hotel’s count, is closed for works until 2030.

Getting to and from Le Marais

  • From Charles de Gaulle: the RER B to Châtelet–Les Halles, €14, then metro line 1 to Hôtel de Ville or Saint-Paul, or line 11 to Rambuteau. An official taxi is a flat €56 to the Right Bank. Every option from Charles de Gaulle.
  • From Orly: metro line 14 to Châtelet, then line 1 or 11, or line 14 to Gare de Lyon and line 1 to Saint-Paul. An official taxi is a flat €45 to the Right Bank. Every option from Orly and Beauvais.
  • From Gare du Nord, for the Eurostar: metro line 5 to Bastille for the Place des Vosges end, or line 4 to Étienne Marcel for the Georgette.

Before you book

For a first visit, yes. Notre-Dame is about 600 m to 1.3 km in a straight line from the hotels below and the Louvre 1.3 to 2.3 km, and the Musée Picasso and the Musée Carnavalet are a few minutes' walk. The area is not on the RER B, so from Charles de Gaulle you change at Châtelet–Les Halles.
