💡 The Short Version: A single Métro-Train-RER ticket is €2.55 and covers the metro, the RER and suburban trains anywhere in the Paris region except the airports, so it gets you to Versailles or Disneyland too. Buses and trams take a separate €2.05 Bus-Tram ticket; the airports a €14 one. Paper tickets are gone: buy in the Île-de-France Mobilités app or Apple Wallet, or load them on a Navigo Easy card (€2.05). You cannot tap a bank card at the city’s gates. For a busy day, the Navigo Jour is €12.30 and pays for itself from the fifth journey; the Navigo Semaine is €32.40 for a week and covers the airports. Fares from Île-de-France Mobilités’ own fare table, 30 September 2026.

  • Two tickets for a return trip: Versailles by RER C, or Disneyland by RER A, is one €2.55 ticket each way.
  • Buses are separate: a Métro-Train-RER ticket does not cover a bus or tram, and a Bus-Tram ticket does not open the metro gates.
  • The old t+ ticket is no longer sold, and cardboard t+ tickets are no longer accepted on buses and trams. If you still have digital t+ tickets on your phone, use them up before you can buy the new ones.

How to buy

Paper tickets are no longer sold. There are two ways to carry a ticket:

On your phone

The Île-de-France Mobilités app on Android (NFC) or iPhone, or Apple Wallet

The app sells every ticket above, and the week and day passes. Apple Wallet sells the Métro-Train-RER, Bus-Tram and airport tickets, the Navigo Jour for the same day, and Paris Visite for 1, 2, 3 or 5 days. Hold the phone to the reader at the gate, and to the inspector’s device if you are checked.

  • One phone per person on Android: a pass or an Android phone cannot be shared. In Apple Wallet you can create separate cards for each traveller.
  • Passes are used first: with a pass and a ticket on the same phone, the pass is validated first. A Paris Visite starts on your next validation, so do not load one the day before you mean to use it.

On a Navigo Easy card

€2.05 · loaded with tickets or passes

A card for anyone without a compatible phone, or for a second set of tickets. Île-de-France Mobilités’ advice is to keep the €14 airport ticket on its own Navigo Easy card, because it cannot sit on the same card or phone as a Métro-Train-RER ticket.

Not by bank card

A contactless bank card does not open the gates in the city. Île-de-France Mobilités takes one in only three places: to leave the metro at Orly airport, charged €14 like the airport ticket; on the Montmartre funicular; and to buy a ticket on board some suburban bus lines, where one card can pay for up to four people and the ticket is valid for an hour on that bus only.

Which ticket for your trip

Your tripBuyWhy
Two or three days, walking between sightsMétro-Train-RER tickets as you goAt €2.55 a journey, four journeys a day cost €10.20, less than a day pass
A day crossing town five or more timesNavigo Jour, €12.30Five tickets would cost €12.75
A full week, with airport journeysNavigo Semaine, €32.40It covers the airports, where two €14 tickets alone come to €28
One day that includes an airport journeyThe €14 airport ticket and a €12.30 Navigo Jour€26.30, less than a day of Paris Visite, from €30.60

There are reduced-fare tickets and a child’s Paris Visite. Reduced and full-fare tickets cannot sit on the same phone or card, so a child’s tickets need a card of their own.

Special days

  • 21 June, Fête de la Musique: a special ticket, €4.30, covers every network from 17:00 on 21 June to 7:00 on 22 June.
  • Pollution peaks: on days when a pollution peak is declared, a day ticket for all modes costs €5.10.

Getting round

The metro and RER run to the sights on the other Paris pages: the RER B from Charles de Gaulle to Gare du Nord and Châtelet, the RER C to Versailles, and the RER A to Disneyland Paris. For a hotel on a line to your airport, see where to stay in Paris; for the sights to book, what to book before you go.

Common questions

How much is a metro ticket in Paris in 2026?

€2.55 for a Métro-Train-RER ticket, which covers the metro, the RER and suburban trains anywhere in the Paris region except the airports. Buses and trams take a separate Bus-Tram ticket, €2.05. Fares from Île-de-France Mobilités, 30 September 2026.

Can I still buy paper metro tickets in Paris?

No. Tickets are sold only in digital form: in the Île-de-France Mobilités app or Apple Wallet on your phone, or loaded on a Navigo Easy card, which costs €2.05. The old t+ ticket is no longer sold, and cardboard t+ tickets are no longer accepted on buses and trams.

Can I tap my bank card on the Paris metro?

Not at the gates in the city. Île-de-France Mobilités takes a contactless bank card only to leave the metro at Orly airport (€14), on the Montmartre funicular, and to buy a ticket on board some suburban bus lines.

Is a day pass worth it in Paris?

The Navigo Jour is €12.30 for unlimited travel in all zones for one day, excluding the airports. It pays for itself from the fifth metro or RER journey of the day: four €2.55 tickets cost €10.20, five cost €12.75.
