- A palace interior: Dar El Bacha. The museum is housed in a palace in the medina. Its collection is Moroccan decorative arts and ethnographic objects: ceramics, textiles, jewellery, manuscripts and everyday objects. It reopened on 23 November 2023 after consolidation work following the earthquake.
- The story of the square: the Jamaâ el-Fna museum. It is the first museum in Morocco dedicated to intangible heritage, in the former Bank al-Maghrib branch on the square, built in 1922 by the architects Auguste Cadet and Edmond Brion. It traces the history of the square, the storytellers’ circles (the halqa) and the performers who work them, and shows two paintings of the square by Jacques Majorelle.
- Old photographs: the Maison de la Photographie. It has been open since 2009 at 46 Rue Ahl Fes, showing photographs of Morocco from 1860 to 1960, among them albumen prints from 1870, glass plates and autochromes.
- Contemporary art: MACAAL. The Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden is in the Al Maaden district, and the museum asks you to allow 10 to 20 minutes for a taxi to arrive. Its team will book one.
- Fashion: the Yves Saint Laurent museum. Its 400 m² permanent exhibition is devoted to Saint Laurent’s work. See the YSL museum guide.

What to skip: MACAAL on a short trip, since it is outside the medina and needs a taxi each way. Dar El Bacha and the Jamaâ el-Fna museum are the two to choose between for the old city.
