Tours worth paying for
GetYourGuide sells no ticket for the garden alone. It sells walking tours of the north of the medina that include it. The garden’s 100 MAD and the Ben Youssef Madrasa’s 50 MAD come to about £11.50 in entry tickets, and the tours below cost £11 to £13 in all, so read “what’s included” on the product page before you assume entry is covered. Where it is not, pay at the door. Prices are GetYourGuide’s lowest “from” prices, per person.

What to see
The palace on this site dates from the mid-19th century, fell into ruin after 1934, and was restored and opened to the public in 2016. The landscape designer Tom Stuart-Smith laid out its two gardens.

- The Islamic garden. It is restored to the form it probably had in the 19th century, on a four-part plan, a layout that made irrigation easier.
- The second garden. It holds plants from different parts of the world, in the experimental spirit of Marrakech’s great gardens.
- The pavilion and the water. The restored historic pavilion tells the story of the site and its former residents, and fountains, pools and paths carry water through the garden.
- The exhibition space. A hall shows temporary exhibitions.
- The cafés. Café Sahrij and Café Menzeh serve mint tea, smoothies, sandwiches and cakes, and access is included with the ticket.

What to skip: the shop and bookstore, unless you want a print or the garden’s guidebook. Allow an hour or more: the garden says visits last from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours. Go in the morning.
