Where to eat in Florence: the Michelin tables, then the trattorie, markets and counters that English and Italian lists name

Where to eat in Florence: Enoteca Pinchiorri with three Michelin stars, five Bib Gourmand restaurants, then the places 80 English and Italian lists name most: the Sant'Ambrogio and Mercato Centrale markets, Cibrèo, Trattoria Mario and Da Burde, with hours, booking rules and what to order.

💡 The Short Version: Enoteca Pinchiorri holds Florence’s only three Michelin stars, and five Florence restaurants hold a Bib Gourmand: Trattoria Cibrèo (Il Cibrèino), L’Ortone, Il Latini, Zeb and Da Burde. The places named by the most of the 80 English and Italian lists read are the two food markets, the Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio (26 sources) and the Mercato Centrale (24), then Cibrèo (17) and Trattoria Mario (14). Trattoria Mario is open for lunch only and takes no reservations, Il Latini’s kitchen is closed on Monday and Zeb is closed on Wednesday and Sunday evening. Or book a guide: the Street Food Tour with Wine & Local Guidead is from €42 for 2.5 hours.

📊 The evidence behind this guide. Nothing here is ranked on one visit. This pass reads 80 list pages from 46 publishers, 26 in English and 20 in Italian: magazines and guides (Condé Nast Traveler, Time Out, Eater, World of Mouth, Gambero Rosso, La Cucina Italiana, Scatti di Gusto, Vanity Fair Italia), Florence food sites in both languages (Firenze Made in Tuscany, Il Blog del Marchese, Puntarella Rossa, FirenzeToday), travel blogs and cooking-class and tour operators. Counts are publishers, not pages, and the English and Italian counts are shown apart. The Michelin Guide, Gambero Rosso and Slow Food awards are printed beside the places they name. How the guides are made

⚠️ Check the day. Trattoria Mario serves lunch only, Monday to Saturday. Il Latini’s kitchen is shut on Monday, Buca Lapi on Sunday, and Zeb on Wednesday and Sunday evening. Cibrèo’s restaurant serves lunch only on Saturday and Sunday. The Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio is shut on Sunday.

Markets and counters

Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio

Piazza Lorenzo Ghiberti · Monday to Saturday 7:00 to 14:00 · closed Sunday · Cited by 26 sources (16 English, 10 Italian)

The market’s own site lists butchers, fishmongers, fruit and vegetable stalls, tripe sellers and a trattoria and a bar inside it. Twenty-six sources name it, more than any other place here, and it finishes at 14:00, so go in the morning. The L’Ortone restaurant, a Bib Gourmand, takes its name from the market square’s old life as the nuns’ kitchen garden. The square is about 400 m from Piazza Santa Croce.
