What to see

The Oceanário opened in 1998, for Expo 98. All of the exhibitions are in the ticket:

  1. One Planet, One Ocean. The permanent exhibition: a central tank of 5 million litres, ringed by four habitats, Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Southern, with 8,000 animals in all. The four habitats are built to look like a single aquarium.
  2. Sea Monsters. Life-size models of prehistoric ocean predators in the main atrium, covering 400 million years. It runs from 15 May to 1 November 2026, in partnership with Dino Parque Lourinhã.
  3. Submerged Universe. An immersive installation on the upper floor, by the French studio LesAteliers BK. It has bright, flashing lights that can affect people with photosensitive epilepsy.
  4. The penguins are away. Submerged Universe starts where the Antarctic habitat used to be. The habitat is closed for renovation, and the penguin colony is housed away from visitors until it returns.

Allow 1½ to 2 hours. What to skip: the morning slot, if the price matters: the same visit costs €4.40 less after 16:00, and the aquarium is open until 20:00, with last entry at 19:00.
