💡 The Short Version: The Galata Tower is €30 for foreign visitors, rising to €35 on 1 April 2027. It is open every day from 08:30 to 18:30, and the ticket office closes at 18:14; a night museum runs 18:30 to 22:00. The Museum Pass covers daytime entry up to 18:14 and not the night museum. Children under 18 go up with a parent. The wait is the security queue, which tour operators put at 20 to 40 minutes, and no ticket skips it. Or book a tour: a 2-hour Galata, İstiklal and Karaköy walkad is from €15, with the tower ticket extra.
The tickets
The price is on the Ministry of Culture’s fee list for foreign visitors, and the opening hours are on the ministry’s Galata Tower page. The tower is a ministry museum, so the tickets are the ministry’s e-ticket and the ticket office. Sites with the tower’s name in their web address that sell tickets are resellers.
| Ticket | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Foreign visitor | €30 | On the ministry’s fee list. €35 from 1 April 2027 on its 2027 schedule |
| Museum Pass Istanbul | Included | Entry up to 18:14. Not valid for the night museum after 19:00 |
| Children | Under 18 with a parent | The ministry requires a parent for visitors under 18 |
- Hours: 08:30 to 18:30 daily, ticket office to 18:14; night museum 18:30 to 22:00 daily, ticket office to 22:00.
- Audio guide: available at the tower.
- Resale tickets: a reseller’s “skip-the-ticket-line” or hosted ticket costs more than the ministry’s €30. It saves the ticket queue and not the security check.
Tours worth paying for
Nothing sold on GetYourGuide undercuts the ministry’s price for the tower itself, so the products worth the money are a guided walk through the district and a boat trip to see the tower from the water. Prices are GetYourGuide’s lowest “from” prices, per person.

What to see
The tower was built by the Genoese in the middle of the 14th century as part of the walls of their Galata colony. The General Directorate of Foundations restored it in 2020, removing later concrete additions and the café, and it reopened as a museum.

- The museum floors. The ministry says the museum shows objects from every period of Istanbul’s history.
- The top floor. The panoramic view of the city is the visit. The tower stood among the tallest buildings in Istanbul until the mid-20th century.
- The night session. From 18:30 to 22:00 the tower stays open, with the ticket office open to 22:00.

How long: operators suggest 45 to 60 minutes inside, plus the security queue. What to know: the Museum Pass does not cover the night session. The views from the Galata Bridge and the hill below the tower are free: the best views in Istanbul separates the free ones from the paid.
Practical information
- Getting there: the T1 tram stops at Karaköy, at the foot of the hill, and the tower is a steep walk up. İstiklal Avenue runs on from the tower up through Beyoğlu.
- Nearby: the Galata Mevlevi Lodge, the first Mevlevi lodge in Istanbul, is within walking distance; it is shut on Mondays. The Tarık Tunaya Cultural Centre, up İstiklal Avenue, is free. See Istanbul museums for both.
- The pass: the Museum Pass Istanbul lists the tower with Topkapı and the Archaeology Museums.
What to book before you go to Istanbul has the closed days for every sight. The other big bookings are Hagia Sophia tickets, Topkapı Palace and Dolmabahçe Palace. Free things to do in Istanbul lists what costs nothing, and where to stay in Istanbul compares Beyoğlu with Sultanahmet.
