💡 The Short Version: The nearest hotel to the Hungarian Parliament of those below is the Áurea Ana Palace, about 380 m away in Lipótváros; across the river, the Novotel Budapest Danube is about 520 m away. The Pest-side hotels walk to the Parliament; the Buda-bank hotels face it across the Danube, and in some of them only one room category does. UK visitors pay 14,000 HUF for the tour, the non-EEA price, and advance tickets are sold online only, through jegymester.hu. Tram 2 runs along the Pest bank past the Parliament on a single ticket. Or book ahead: GetYourGuide’s Parliament entry ticket with an audio guidead is from £36.54 (4.5 stars from 6,134 reviews), about 13% above the operator’s price.
Why stay here
- The Parliament visit. UK passports pay the non-EEA price, 14,000 HUF (about £32), double the EEA price of 7,000 HUF; the operator’s list applies the EEA price to EEA citizens and residence-card holders. Advance tickets are only online at jegymester.hu, the one official seller, and a limited number of same-day tickets are sold at the Visitor Centre. The tour takes 45 minutes, with an audio guide or a guide in English among six languages. A late arrival may be refused entry with no refund, and visits can be cancelled up to the moment of admission for parliamentary or state events (Hungarian Parliament). Hungarian Parliament tickets has the rest.
- Tram 2 runs along the Pest bank from Jászai Mari tér to Közvágóhíd, past the Parliament, the Chain Bridge and the Gresham Palace, and BKV says it costs one single ticket (BKV).
- The river. The Parliament looks best from the water: Danube river cruises says which boats run when the water is low.
- St Stephen’s Basilica is 0.1 to 1 km from most of the Pest-side hotels in a straight line: see St Stephen’s Basilica tickets.
- From the airport, the 100E ends at Deák Ferenc tér, about 0.2 to 1.3 km from most of the Pest-side hotels in a straight line. See Budapest Airport to the city centre.

Which side of the river
The Parliament stands on the Pest bank in Lipótváros. Hotels on the Pest side reach it on foot through the streets behind it. The Buda-bank hotels have the river and the Parliament across it, rather than the street. Distances below are straight lines from the middle of the building; the visitor entrance is on Kossuth Lajos tér, and a route over a bridge is longer. The links go to the hotel on Hotels.com. Prices are not quoted, because they move with the date.

Before you book
- The Parliament tour needs its own ticket, and the hotel does not sell it. UK visitors pay 14,000 HUF, the non-EEA price, and a tour booked through a reseller must be the non-EEA option. GetYourGuide’s Grand City Tour with Parliament Visitad is from £55.24 (4.4 stars from 2,027 reviews, 4½ hours) and includes the interior visit; its listing offers EU and non-EU tickets and says a wrong choice costs a €30 surcharge on site, so pick the non-EU option.
- Which room faces what. The Pest-bank hotels look across to Buda Castle, not at the Parliament. Only a Buda-bank river-facing room has the Parliament in the view, and only some categories do: see the Danube-view hotels for the room names.
- From the airport, the 100E bus takes 40 minutes to Deák Ferenc tér and needs its own HUF 2,500 ticket; tram 2 and the metro go on from there. Budapest public transport has the fares.
- The tourist tax is extra: 4% of the room rate for each night started, collected by the hotel, with guests under 18 exempt (Terézváros).
- Elsewhere in Budapest: where to stay in Budapest compares the districts, from the Jewish Quarter to the Castle.
For what to book before you go, and how far ahead, see what to book before you go in Budapest. To fit the sights to your days, see 3 days in Budapest and Budapest in one day. For the evening, ruin bars covers District VII, and where to eat in Budapest lists the restaurants. The Budapest Card guide says what the card covers: not the Parliament. Across the river, Buda Castle and the National Gallery and Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church have their own guides, and on the Pest side so do the Hungarian State Opera tours and the Dohány Street Synagogue.
