The bulb fields outside the park, between the dunes and Lisse, Hillegom, Noordwijkerhout and Voorhout, flower from late March to early May, and the weather decides the week. The 2027 bloom windows
Keukenhof is open from 18 March to 9 May 2027 and publishes three windows in its flower report (1 October 2026):

The bulb fields outside the park
The flower fields are in the Bollenstreek, the bulb region between Amsterdam and The Hague, mostly between the dunes and the villages of Lisse, Hillegom, Noordwijkerhout and Voorhout. Most bloom from late March to early May: crocuses and daffodils come first, then hyacinths and early tulips, and the weather in February, March and April moves the dates. The region’s tourist site runs a Flower Map with a weekly update on what is in flower from early March (bollenstreek.nl).
Keukenhof does not control the fields: its flower report and the Flower Map are the signals for the weeks. To see them:
- By bike. The Bollenstreek site lists four cycle routes round Keukenhof, and routes from Haarlem and from Leiden to the park (bollenstreek.nl).
- By tour. The half-day tulip fields tourad (from £32.03, 4.3 stars from 408 reviews, 4 hours) has two hours at the Tulip Experience, where you can pick your own tulips, with a flexible return, from This is Holland in Amsterdam Noord.
- With Keukenhof. The Keukenhof and Zaanse Schans day tourad (from £59.37, 4.5 stars from 2,482 reviews, 8 hours) adds the windmills.
What the fields rule
The fields are the growers’ private property, and walking among the flowers is not allowed. A campaign by growers, tourist attractions and marketing organisations, “Enjoy our flowers, but don’t cross the flower line”, marks the border between public and private ground with a ribbon. On the busiest weekends of the season volunteers called flower liners point visitors to photo spots (Blik op Noordwijk, 22 March 2025).
- Photograph from the edge of a field, or at a photo spot set up for the purpose.
- Walking in the fields tramples the flowers and bulbs, and moving between fields spreads fungi, bacteria and thrips, which cost the grower money (bollenstreek.nl).
- The campaign also notes that visitors scare ground-nesting birds such as lapwings.
- Where you want a photograph among the flowers, the region’s visitor sites list flower attractions that allow it.
The Bloemencorso flower parade
The Bloemencorso Bollenstreek is on Saturday 17 April 2027, from Noordwijk to Haarlem, which is under 20 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal by train. The organiser’s programme puts the parade week at 14 to 18 April, with a lit-up parade, the Lichtjescorso, in Noordwijkerhout on the evening of Friday 16 April and the main parade on the Saturday (bloemencorso-bollenstreek.nl). The date falls inside Keukenhof’s peak bloom window.
Tulips in Amsterdam itself
The tourist board lists two tulip events in the city (I amsterdam, updated 18 December 2025):
- The Amsterdam Tulp Festival runs for the whole of April, with tulips in parks, streets and outside attractions. The locations regularly include the Rijksmuseum, Vondelpark, Rembrandtplein and the EYE Filmmuseum, and there is nothing to buy.
- National Tulip Day is in mid-January, when growers set up a garden of 200,000 tulips on Dam Square and visitors may pick one free.
Planning the trip
Keukenhof’s peak bloom, 15 to 30 April, includes King’s Day, on Tuesday 27 April 2027, and best time to visit Amsterdam puts the tulip season in the year.
