💡 The Short Version: Michelin’s Madrid list has one three-star restaurant, DiverXO, and six with two stars. The places named by the most of the 94 publishers counted are Bodega de la Ardosa (22 sources), Botín (20), Lhardy (17), Casa Alberto (16) and Casa Labra and the Taberna de Antonio Sánchez (15 each). Casa Alberto and the Taberna de Antonio Sánchez are closed on Monday, Lhardy on Sunday evening, and Casa Labra serves tapas only. Botín books online only at 13:00 or 23:15. Or book a tour: the Madrid: Tapas & Wine Tasting Tour with Local Guidead is from €85 for 3 hours.

📊 The evidence behind this guide. Nothing here is ranked on one visit. This pass counts the restaurant, tapas and food lists of 44 English and 50 Spanish publishers: newspapers, magazines, guidebooks and travel writers, among them Time Out, Condé Nast Traveler, The Infatuation, Eater, Lonely Planet and Culinary Backstreets in English, and Time Out España, Elle España, Salir.com, Vogue España, El País, El Mundo and ABC in Spanish. Madrid-only sites without a named newsroom, tour operators and listing sites such as Tripadvisor are not counted. Counts are publishers, not pages, and the English and Spanish counts are shown apart. The Michelin Guide and Guía Repsol are printed as awards beside the places they name, not counted as sources. How the guides are made

⚠️ Check the day. Casa Alberto and the Taberna de Antonio Sánchez are closed on Monday, Lhardy’s restaurant on Sunday evening, and Casa Lucio in August. Casa Labra serves tapas only.

Michelin and the other awards

Michelin’s Madrid page lists 31 starred restaurants in the Comunidad de Madrid: one with three stars, six with two and 24 with one. Twenty-two of the one-star restaurants are in the city; Ancestral in Pozuelo de Alarcón and Chirón in Valdemoro are not. The same page lists 14 Bib Gourmand restaurants in the city (Michelin Guide). Michelin changes the list each year, so quote it by name.

The places named by the most sources

The count is the number of publishers that name the place on a restaurant, tapas or food list, with the split between the 44 English and 50 Spanish publishers. A place named by fewer than 12 is left out of this table.

The English lists favour Botín and San Ginés, named by 12 English publishers each, and Casa Dani. The Spanish lists favour the old taverns, Malacatín and Casa Alberto among them, and the starred and Repsol names that the English lists have not caught up with, among them Taberna Pedraza, Arzábal, Trèsde and Los Torreznos.
