The Cathedral is €12 and is not in the €14 bracelet, which covers seven other monuments, each once, within seven days. The Alcázar (the Army Museum) is €5, free on Wednesdays, and closed Mondays; the Cathedral opens at 14:00 on Sundays. The station is across the river, about 20 minutes’ walk from the old town by escalators, or a bus to Zocodover. Or book a tour: Segovia and Toledo, Alcazar and Cathedralad is from €40.60 for 12 hours and Guided Day Trip to Toledo by Busad is from €34; a tour replaces the train booking and the climb from the station, and puts the monuments in order for you (GetYourGuide).

What to see

Toledo is a hilltop old town of narrow cobbled streets, and the monuments run roughly east to west from the Alcázar to San Juan de los Reyes. Guided day trips from Madrid run 6 to 9 hours. The order below starts by Zocodover and walks west.

The Alcázar and the Army Museum

€5 · Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 17:00 · free Wednesdays

The fortress above Zocodover is now the Museo del Ejército, with the Army’s collection. The temporary exhibitions, the gardens, the library and the café are free every day, and there is a free cloakroom, so leave large bags there. The box office shuts 30 minutes before closing. The museum is closed on Mondays, including holidays, on 1 and 6 January, 1 May, and 24, 25 and 31 December.

The Cathedral

€12 · Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 18:30, Sunday 14:00 to 18:30 · tickets from the Cathedral

The Gothic Cathedral of Toledo, begun in 1226, is the Primate Cathedral of Spain. The visit takes in the Main Chapel and its gilded altarpiece, the carved Choir, the Sacristy and its picture gallery, the Chapter House, the Cloister, the Crypt and the Custodia of Enrique de Arfe. A guided Cathedral tour runs 1½ to 2 hours. Entry stops 30 minutes before closing. On 1 November and 8 December it opens 14:00 to 18:30, on 24 and 31 December 10:00 to 14:00, and on 25 December it is closed. The city lists free entry to the naves only from 08:00 to 09:15, Monday to Friday, by the Puerta del Reloj, which suits the first Avant.

The Cathedral’s Jubilee Year opens on 25 October 2026 with the opening of the Puerta de Reyes and runs to October 2027. It is an active place of worship that closes to visitors for celebrations.

Santo Tomé

€4 or in the bracelet · open daily

The church holds El Greco’s The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, the reason to go. It is open every day except 25 December and 1 January. The bracelet monuments close between 17:45 and 18:45, depending on the monument and the season.

The Jewish Quarter

Santa María la Blanca and San Juan de los Reyes · both in the bracelet

Santa María la Blanca is a former synagogue in the Mudejar style with white columns and horseshoe arches. San Juan de los Reyes is a monastery in the Isabelline Gothic style, built for the Catholic Monarchs, with a cloister. They stand at the western end of the old town, so walk to them after Santo Tomé.
