💡 The Short Version: The Paseo del Arte card is €32.80 for one visit each to the Prado, the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen within a year, against €41 for the three tickets: it saves €8.20. It does not beat the free hours: the Prado is free from 18:00, the Reina Sofía from 19:00 with a free ticket, and the Thyssen on Monday from 12:00 to 16:00. It is not valid at the Thyssen on Mondays. Buy it from the museums. GetYourGuide resells it at €38. For one museum with a guide, a guided Prado tour with the ticketad is from €48.56 (GetYourGuide).

The card and its price

The card is sold by the three museums. The Thyssen’s page is the clearest, and the Reina Sofía and Tourism Madrid describe it too. Search results for “Paseo del Arte card” include sites with the card’s name in their web addresses that are resellers.

  • The card pays in one case: you want daytime visits to all three, and the free hours do not fit your days.
  • Any free hour beats it. One free window turns €41 into €26 to €29. The Prado is free from 18:00 to 20:00 Monday to Saturday and 17:00 to 19:00 on Sundays and public holidays. The Reina Sofía is free from 19:00 to 21:00 on Monday and Wednesday to Saturday and 12:30 to 14:30 on Sundays, with a ticket booked free online. The Thyssen is free on Mondays from 12:00 to 16:00 and on Saturdays from 21:00 to 23:00 for the temporary exhibitions, with no ticket.
  • A free week is possible. A Monday gives the Thyssen at noon, the Prado from 18:00 and the Reina Sofía from 19:00.

Other passes

  • The annual state museums pass is €36.06. It covers the Prado and the Reina Sofía as often as you like, and the Cerralbo, Romanticismo and other state museums, but not the Thyssen. It is bought at a ticket office and used with photo ID; it cannot be bought in advance.
  • Eight Madrid Museums is €16 for 15 days and Four Madrid Museums is €8 for 10 days. They cover the smaller state museums, not the Prado, the Reina Sofía or the Thyssen. See museums in Madrid.
  • Madrid City Card: a travel pass with discounts, not an attractions pass. Madrid tourist pass has the sums.

Tours worth paying for

A guided tour with the ticket included replaces the card for that museum. Prices are GetYourGuide’s lowest “from” prices, per person.

Which to choose

  • One or two museums: pay at the door or online, or use the free hours.
  • All three, at daytime hours: the card at €32.80.
  • All three, flexible evenings: nothing: the Prado from 18:00 and the Reina Sofía from 19:00 are free, with the Thyssen on a Monday.
  • A guide: book a tour that includes the ticket.

The three museums stand on the Paseo del Prado, about a 10-minute walk apart, and the avenue and the Retiro have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Landscape of Light, since 2021. Free things to do in Madrid maps every free window and who may use it, the Retiro is next to the Prado, and what to book before you go to Madrid lists the closed days for every sight.

Common questions
